Metal & Mangroves

Metal and Mangroves Exhibition

‘Metal and Mangroves’ is an exhibition of illustrated stories which examine the impact of industry on both landscape and culture in Port Curtis, Central Queensland. Upper primary level students from the area created the artwork in workshops conducted by Indigenous artist and writer Belynda (Bindi) Waugh.

A  partnership between the Curtis Coast Literary Carnivale and Book Links (Qld) Inc, ‘Metal and Mangroves’ was made possible by the Australian Government’s regional arts program, the Regional Arts Fund, which gives artists and communities throughout regional, rural, and remote Australia better access to opportunities to practice and experience the arts.

Gregory Rogers, renowned Australian illustrator, launched the exhibition at The Edge, State Library of Queensland, during the Brisbane Writers Festival in September, 2007.
