Friday 3 – Wednesday 29 November, 2023 – Exhibition open to the public with a range of workshops.
Book Links is looking forward to presenting an Artist in Residence program with Lee FullARTon, in The Write Gallery at The Lighthouse Toowoomba. Children and adults alike will be delighted to view and participate in the exhibition of “Mr Chippa the Woodblock Carver of Bagru” and a selection of free artistic workshops.
The exhibition showcases Queensland artist Lee FullARTon’s children’s picture book brought to life with hand carved woodblocks, hand printed using traditional print practices.
Mr Chippa the Woodblock Carver of Bagru is a cultural story about the Woodblock Carvers from Bagru India, paying homage to their unique craft. Lee collaborated with woodblock carvers over many years to create this stunning picture book.
People will be able to explore the printed illustrations alongside the woodblock plates, the handcrafted children’s picture book, paintings inspired by the artist’s journeys to India and handmade Kathputli Puppets.
Just like the book, this exhibition promises to intersect story, art, culture, and place, transporting participants to a world of wonder, imagination, and storytelling through skilled and delicate craft.
