Katrina Nannestad 2024

The Book Links Narelle Oliver Lecture 2024 will be presented by Katrina Nannestad
This lecture is aimed at teachers, teacher-librarians, librarians, parents and any adults with an interest in Children’s Literature.
What makes a powerful story?

Every reader is unique. What they bring to a story influences how they interpret and respond to it. So how do we begin to determine what makes a story powerful? Drawing from her experience as a disinterested young reader, a primary teacher, a parent and a successful children’s author, Katrina Nannestad will look at the things we might consider when telling, reading and writing stories for children.

Katrina Nannestad is a multi award-winning children’s author. She grew up in country New South Wales in a neighbourhood stuffed full of happy children. Her adult years have been spent teaching, raising boys, perfecting her recipe for chocolate-chip bickies and pursuing her love of stories.

Katrina celebrates family, friendship and belonging in her writing and loves to create stories that bring hope and joy to others. Katrina’s books include Silver LiningsWaiting for the StorksRabbit, Soldier, Angel, ThiefWe Are Wolves,  The Girl Who Brought Mischief and Bungaloo Creek.  Her series include The Travelling BookshopThe Girl, the Dog and the Writer, Lottie PerkinsOlive of Groves, and Red Dirt Diaries.

Katrina now lives on a hillside in central Victoria (in a house, not just in the grass!) with a very silly whippet called Olive and a sensible husband called Bloss.
